Online tutors in Houston

Heights International Academy teaches Houston students live online, one-to-one or in small groups, for AP, IB and University subjects. Classes are scheduled in US Eastern Time (EST/EDT); other cities shown in local time, after school and at weekends, fees are shown in USD, and the first class is free.

Houston is a sprawling city, and students in Houston ISD or in suburban districts such as Katy, Cypress-Fairbanks and Fort Bend often face long drives on the freeways. Adding an in-person tutor after school can take most of an evening. Online tutoring removes the drive. Houston's energy and medical sectors bring in international families, some of whom arrive with IGCSE, A Level or IB backgrounds and need help adjusting to Texas courses, AP and the SAT. Lessons also continue when severe weather closes schools.

Questions from Houston families

Do you help Houston students with STAAR end-of-course exams?

Yes, we help Houston students prepare for STAAR end-of-course exams, especially Algebra I and Biology. Tutors review the Texas standards (TEKS) tested on each exam and practise with released questions. Tell us which exam your child is sitting and when, and we will plan focused sessions.

How much does a tutor cost in Houston?

Tutor costs in Houston depend on the subject, level, tutor experience and format. Our own fees are listed in USD on our pricing page and apply to live online lessons, so there is no driving on Houston's freeways. AP and IB lessons are priced at a higher tier than standard courses.

My child is moving to Houston from a British or IB school. Can you help?

Yes, we help students moving to Houston from British-curriculum or IB schools adjust to Texas courses, AP classes and US-style assessment. Tutors who know both systems can identify content gaps, for example in algebra or US-specific topics, and keep earlier strengths going. Tell us the student's previous courses and new schedule.

Is online tutoring better than an in-home tutor in Houston?

Online tutoring is often more practical than an in-home tutor in Houston, because the city is spread out and nobody has to drive. It also widens the choice of specialists. An in-home tutor provides in-person supervision for children who need it. We teach online only and do not visit homes.

What time are online lessons in Houston?

Online lessons for Houston students are scheduled in Central Time, usually from about 4pm to 9pm on weekdays and from morning to late afternoon at weekends. If school closes for severe weather, lessons can usually go ahead as long as you have power and internet.
