How do schools and exams work in Kuwait?

Kuwait's government schools serve Kuwaiti nationals and follow the national curriculum under the Ministry of Education. Most expatriate children attend private schools, also licensed and overseen by the Ministry, which teach British (IGCSE and A Level), American (high school diploma with AP), IB, Indian and Pakistani curricula, as well as Arabic bilingual programmes.

Many Kuwaiti families also choose British or American private schools, so international qualifications are common across both communities. Students heading to universities in Kuwait or abroad often need strong grades in maths, sciences and English, and some will need an equivalency for foreign qualifications.

We teach online only, with tutors matched to each student's exact board and syllabus. That makes lessons easy to fit around school and family commitments, and they continue if the family travels during Kuwait's long summer.

Sitting exams

Students at international schools sit exams at their own school where it is a registered centre. Private candidates can register for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams through the British Council in Kuwait, which sets a minimum age and document requirements. In the May/June 2026 series, Cambridge awarded grades in Kuwait through a portfolio of evidence instead of written exams, so confirm current arrangements with your school or the British Council.

School calendar

Private schools in Kuwait generally run from September to June, and the Ministry of Education publishes the government-school calendar each year. National and Liberation Day holidays fall in late February. During Ramadan, school hours are shortened and tutoring usually moves to the evening. Summer temperatures often exceed 45°C, which makes online study a practical choice.

Questions from families in Kuwait

Which curricula do you tutor for students in Kuwait?

We tutor the curricula most common in Kuwait's private schools: Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE and A Level, the IB Diploma, AP courses with SAT preparation for American-school students, and FBISE Matric and HSSC for Pakistani schools. Tell us your child's school, grade and subjects, and we will match a tutor who has taught that exact syllabus.

How much does a private tutor cost in Kuwait?

Our tutoring fees for Kuwait are published in KWD on our pricing page, so you can see the cost before you book. What you pay depends on the qualification your child is studying, one-to-one or small-group format, and the number of weekly sessions. Families in Salmiya pay the same as families in Fahaheel, since nobody travels.

Are online tutors as good as home tutors in Kuwait?

For most secondary students in Kuwait, online tutors are as good as home tutors and often more practical, since no one has to drive in peak traffic or summer heat. The key factors are a tutor who knows the syllabus and a quiet room at home. We teach online only and never send tutors to homes in Kuwait.

Can my child sit IGCSE exams privately in Kuwait?

Yes, private candidates can register for IGCSE and A Level exams through the British Council in Kuwait, which sets a minimum age and asks for documents such as a passport or Civil ID copy. Exam arrangements in the region changed at short notice in 2026, so check the British Council Kuwait website before planning.

Can lessons fit around the school day and Ramadan in Kuwait?

Yes, lessons are booked in Kuwait time, most often between mid-afternoon and 9pm on school days, with longer sessions on Fridays and Saturdays. In Ramadan, when the school day is shorter, many families move lessons to the hours after iftar. We agree the timetable with you before lessons begin and adjust it for exams.
