How do schools and exams work in Bahrain?

Bahrain's government schools follow the national curriculum under the Ministry of Education, which also licenses private schools. The Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA) reviews the performance of government and private schools and publishes its reports.

Private schools in Bahrain teach British (IGCSE and A Level), American (high school diploma with AP), IB, Indian and Pakistani curricula, and many Bahraini families choose British or American private schools. Students often aim for universities in Bahrain, the wider Gulf, the UK or North America, so subject grades and admissions tests both matter.

Because Bahrain is small, families can usually reach school easily, but finding a specialist in a particular IB, A Level or AP subject can be harder. We teach online only, so students can work with a tutor who knows their exact syllabus.

Sitting exams

Students at private schools sit exams at their school where it is a registered centre. Private candidates can register for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams through the British Council in Bahrain, submitting the online form, documents and fees. In the May/June 2026 series, Cambridge awarded grades in Bahrain through a portfolio of evidence instead of written exams, so always confirm current arrangements with your school or the British Council.

School calendar

Most private schools run from late August or September to June, and the Ministry of Education publishes the government-school calendar. National Day holidays fall on 16 and 17 December. During Ramadan, school hours are reduced and tutoring usually moves to after iftar.

Questions from families in Bahrain

Do you tutor both Bahraini and expatriate students?

Yes, we tutor Bahraini and expatriate students alike, whether they attend British, American, IB, Indian or Pakistani-curriculum private schools. What matters is matching your child with a tutor who knows their exact syllabus and exam board. Tell us the school's curriculum, your child's year group and subjects, and we will suggest a tutor.

How much does tutoring cost in Bahrain?

Tutoring fees for Bahrain are set out in BHD on our pricing page. The figure you pay depends on the qualification, such as IGCSE, A Level, IB or AP, whether you choose individual or small-group lessons, and how many lessons a week suit your child. Lessons are online, so there is nothing extra for travel.

Is online tutoring as good as a home tutor in Bahrain?

Online tutoring is as good as a home tutor for most Bahraini secondary students, and it opens up specialists in subjects that are hard to cover locally, such as IB Physics HL or AP Calculus BC. Younger children sometimes need someone in the room. We teach online only and do not offer home visits in Bahrain.

Can private candidates sit A Level exams in Bahrain?

Yes, private candidates can register for A Level and IGCSE exams through the British Council in Bahrain, providing photographs, a passport or CPR copy and the exam fees. Exam arrangements in the region changed at short notice in 2026, so check the British Council Bahrain website for the current series before you plan.

Can lessons be scheduled around Bahrain school hours?

Yes, we schedule lessons in Bahrain time to start after school, typically from mid-afternoon until about 9pm, and offer longer weekend sessions on Fridays and Saturdays. Ramadan timings can shift to after iftar, and we can add sessions before mocks or final exams. Your slot is agreed with you before the first lesson.
