How do schools and exams work in Qatar?
Qatar's government schools follow the national curriculum under the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which also licenses and oversees private schools. Most expatriate children, and many Qatari families, choose private schools that teach British (IGCSE and A Level), American (high school diploma with AP), IB, Indian or Pakistani curricula.
Many students in Qatar aim for universities abroad or for the branch campuses of international universities in Doha's Education City, so subject grades and admissions tests matter. Students at British-curriculum schools typically take IGCSEs at 16 and A Levels at 18, while American-school students combine school grades with AP exams and the SAT.
We teach online only, matching each student with a tutor who knows their exact board and syllabus. Lessons run in Qatar time after school and at weekends, and continue unchanged if the family travels or relocates.
Sitting exams
Most students sit exams at their own school if it is a registered centre. Private candidates can register for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams through the British Council in Qatar, which sets its own age and document requirements, so check these before you plan. In the May/June 2026 series, Cambridge awarded grades in Qatar through a portfolio of evidence instead of written exams, so always confirm current arrangements with your school or the British Council.
School calendar
Most private schools run from late August to June, with a winter break in December and a spring break around March. The Ministry publishes the calendar for government schools each year. During Ramadan, school hours are shortened and tutoring usually moves to the evening. Summer temperatures are very high, so many families use the break for online catch-up.

Yes, we offer live online tutoring for students in Doha and across Qatar in IGCSE, A Level, IB, AP and SAT, as well as Pakistani-curriculum subjects. Lessons run in Arabia Standard Time after school and on Fridays and Saturdays. Tell us your child's curriculum and subjects, and we will match a tutor who knows that syllabus.
How much does a tutor cost in Qatar?
Our fees for Qatar are listed in QAR on our pricing page. The cost depends on the level, such as IGCSE, A Level or IB, whether you choose one-to-one or small-group lessons, and how many sessions a week you book. Because all lessons are online, there are no travel charges.
Is an online tutor as effective as a home tutor in Qatar?
An online tutor can be as effective as a home tutor for most secondary students, provided the tutor knows the syllabus and the student has a quiet space and good connection. Online lessons widen the choice of specialists. We teach online only and do not provide home visits in Qatar.
Can my child sit IGCSE exams as a private candidate in Qatar?
Yes, private candidates can register for IGCSE and A Level exams through the British Council in Qatar, which has its own age and document requirements. Exam arrangements in the region changed at short notice in 2026, so check the British Council's current guidance before planning. Your tutor can then structure revision around the series you choose.
What times are online classes in Qatar?
Online classes run in Arabia Standard Time, usually from about 3pm to 9pm on school days and from morning to early evening on Fridays and Saturdays. During Ramadan, lessons can move to after iftar.
