How do schools and exams work in Oman?

Oman's government schools follow the national curriculum under the Ministry of Education, which also licenses private schools. Private schools include bilingual schools teaching the national curriculum alongside English, and international schools teaching British (IGCSE and A Level), American, IB and Indian curricula. Oman has a large Indian community, and Indian-curriculum schools educate many expatriate children.

Students at international schools commonly take IGCSEs at 16, followed by A Levels or the IB Diploma. Omani students heading to university abroad, and expatriate students returning home, often need help with subject grades and English for admissions.

Families outside Muscat, in cities such as Sohar, Nizwa or Salalah, may find specialist secondary tutors harder to reach locally. Because we teach online only, location within Oman makes no difference to the tutors available.

Sitting exams

Students at international schools sit IGCSE, A Level and IB exams at their own school where it is a registered centre. Private candidates can register for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams through the British Council in Oman, which accepts private entries for the May/June and October/November series. Registration is done online, followed by payment at the office.

School calendar

International schools in Oman usually run from late August to June. The Ministry of Education publishes the calendar for government schools each year. National Day holidays fall in November. During Ramadan, school hours are reduced and tutoring often moves to the evening. Summer heat makes online lessons a practical choice.

How much does online tutoring cost in Oman?

Our fees for Oman are listed in OMR on our pricing page. The cost depends on the level, such as IGCSE, A Level or IB, whether lessons are one-to-one or in a small group, and how many sessions you book each week. There are no travel charges because every lesson is online.

What time are classes in Oman?

Classes run in Gulf Standard Time, usually from about 3pm to 9pm on school days and from morning to early evening on Fridays and Saturdays. During Ramadan we can schedule lessons after iftar. We confirm the exact slot before the first lesson, depending on your subject and tutor availability.
