What is the International English Language Testing System format?
| Listening | About 30 minutes, 40 questions on four recordings. The same for Academic and General Training. |
|---|---|
| Reading | 60 minutes, 40 questions. Academic uses longer texts from books, journals and newspapers; General Training uses everyday and workplace texts. |
| Writing | 60 minutes, two tasks. Academic Task 1 describes a graph, chart or diagram; General Training Task 1 is a letter. Task 2 is an essay in both versions. |
| Speaking | 11 to 14 minutes, a face-to-face conversation with an examiner in three parts. The same for Academic and General Training. |
| Scoring | Each of the four parts receives a band score from 0 to 9, and the overall band is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half or whole band. Universities and immigration authorities set their own requirements, often specifying both an overall band and a minimum in each part. |
| Test dates | IELTS is offered frequently throughout the year, on paper or on computer, at test centres in Pakistan, the Gulf, the UK, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. Computer-delivered tests usually have more dates and faster results. Check the official IELTS website or your local test centre for available dates. |
How do we prepare students for the IELTS?
Diagnostic assessment
A short test of all four skills shows the student's current level and which parts need the most work.
Band target
We confirm whether the student needs Academic or General Training and the band scores required by their university, employer or visa route.
Weekly skills lessons
Lessons rotate through Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, with feedback on written tasks against the public band descriptors and regular speaking practice.
Timed mock tests
Full and part mock tests under timed conditions, in the paper or computer format the student will sit.
Review and final preparation
The tutor reviews mock results, targets the remaining weak areas and helps the student plan their approach for test day.

IELTS questions students ask
What is the difference between IELTS Academic and General Training?
IELTS Academic is for students applying to universities or professional registration, while General Training is mainly for work, secondary education and migration. Listening and Speaking are the same in both. Reading and Writing differ: Academic uses academic texts and a graph or diagram task, while General Training uses everyday texts and a letter.
What IELTS band score do I need?
The band score you need is set by the university, employer or immigration authority you are applying to. Many university courses ask for an overall band with a minimum in each part, and competitive or professional courses usually ask for more. Check the official requirements of each institution or visa route before setting a target.
How long does it take to prepare for IELTS?
Most students prepare for IELTS over four to twelve weeks, depending on their current level and target band. Students who are close to their target may only need focused practice on one or two skills, while larger gaps take longer. A diagnostic assessment at the start gives a clearer estimate.
Should I take IELTS on paper or on computer?
Both formats have the same content, timing and scoring, so the choice is about comfort and convenience. Computer-delivered IELTS usually offers more test dates and faster results, and suits students who type well. Paper suits students who prefer handwriting. The Speaking test is face-to-face with an examiner in both formats.
Can I take IELTS classes online in Pakistan?
Yes, we offer live online IELTS classes for students in Pakistan, scheduled in Pakistan time, one-to-one or in small groups. Lessons cover all four skills with feedback on writing and regular speaking practice. Fees can be shown in Pakistani rupees on our pricing page, and a free trial class is available.
How long are IELTS results valid?
Most universities and organisations accept IELTS results for two years from the test date. Some may set a different validity period, so check with the institution or authority you are applying to. If your result is likely to expire before your application, plan your test date accordingly.
