How do schools and exams work in Pakistan?
Pakistan runs two school systems side by side. Most students follow the national route: Secondary School Certificate (Matric, Classes 9 and 10) followed by the Higher Secondary School Certificate (Intermediate, usually called FSc for science students, Classes 11 and 12). These exams are set by the Federal Board (FBISE) in Islamabad and by provincial boards of intermediate and secondary education in each division, such as BISE Lahore, BISE Peshawar, and BSEK and BIEK in Karachi.
Many private schools in the larger cities teach Cambridge International instead, with O Level (or IGCSE) at around 16 and AS and A Level at 18. Some schools also offer Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and International A Level. Students who want to move from the Cambridge route into Pakistani universities or professional colleges apply to the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) for an equivalence certificate.
Because Matric/FSc and O/A Level differ in syllabus, assessment style and exam timing, a tutor who knows one route well may not suit the other. We match tutors to the exact board and syllabus your child is sitting, and we teach online only, so families anywhere in Pakistan get the same subject specialists.
Sitting exams
School students sit Matric and Intermediate exams through their own board, with registration handled by the school; private candidates register directly with the relevant board. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams are taken at the student's school if it is a registered centre. Private candidates register through the British Council Pakistan, which accepts private entries in cities including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Check the British Council's current deadlines and venue list before each series, because late entries cost more.
School calendar
Most schools take a long summer vacation in June and July, often extending into August, with dates announced each year by the provincial governments and the federal capital. Winter breaks fall in late December. Board Matric and Intermediate exams are mostly held in spring, while Cambridge runs May/June and October/November series. During Ramadan, schools shorten the day and many students prefer later evening classes after iftar; we adjust slots on request.

Questions from families in Pakistan
Which is the best online academy in Pakistan?
The best online academy in Pakistan is the one that matches your child's exact board and syllabus, publishes its fees, lets you try a class before paying and keeps parents informed. Ask any academy for a free trial, the tutor's experience with your syllabus code and how progress is reported. We offer all of these, with fees in PKR.
Is online tuition in Pakistan effective for O Level and Matric students?
Yes, online tuition works well for both O Level and Matric when the tutor knows the exact syllabus and the student has a steady connection. Live one-to-one lessons let the tutor see working on a shared whiteboard, set past-paper practice and give feedback straight away. Families also save the time and cost of travelling to an academy, which matters most in the evening rush hour.
Kya online tuition O Level ke liye effective hai?
Yes, online tuition is effective for O Level if your child has a subject specialist, a quiet place to study and a reliable internet connection. Lessons are live, so students can ask questions, share their working on a digital whiteboard and practise Cambridge past-paper questions with feedback. We answer in English here, but you are welcome to message us in Urdu or Roman Urdu.
How much does online tuition cost in Pakistan?
Our fees in Pakistan are charged in PKR and are listed on our pricing page, so you can see the cost before booking. The fee depends on the level (Matric, O Level or A Level), whether lessons are one-to-one or in a small group, and how many sessions a week you choose. Ask us if anything on the pricing page is unclear, and we will suggest a plan.
Do you teach Matric and FSc for every board in Pakistan?
Yes, we teach Matric and Intermediate (FSc) students from the Federal Board and the provincial boards, including the Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa boards. Board syllabuses and textbooks differ slightly, so tell us your board and class when you enquire. We then match a tutor who has taught that board's textbook and past papers, rather than a general subject teacher.
Is online tuition better than a home tutor in Pakistan?
Online tuition is the better fit for many families because it gives access to subject specialists without travel, and parents can sit in on any lesson. A home tutor can suit very young children who need someone physically present. We only teach online and never send tutors to homes, so if in-person help is essential for your child, a local home tutor may suit you better.
Can my child sit O Level or A Level exams as a private candidate in Pakistan?
Yes, students who are not entered through a school can register as private candidates with the British Council Pakistan for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams. Registration windows close several months before each series, and late entries carry extra fees. Check the British Council Pakistan website for current deadlines and venues, and tell your tutor which series you are aiming for so the course is planned backwards from it.
