Online tutors in Perth

Heights International Academy teaches Perth students live online, one-to-one or in small groups, for IB and University subjects. Classes are scheduled in Australian Eastern Time (AEST/AEDT); other cities shown in local time, after school and at weekends, fees are shown in AUD, and the first class is free.

Perth students work towards the Western Australian Certificate of Education, and those aiming for university take ATAR courses with external exams at the end of Year 12. Perth runs on Australian Western Standard Time, two or three hours behind Sydney depending on the season, so tutoring services built around east-coast hours can be awkward. We schedule lessons in Perth time. The metropolitan area stretches a long way along the coast, from Joondalup to Rockingham, and online lessons avoid long after-school drives.

Which curricula do Perth students take?

Perth students take the WACE, set by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), with ATARs calculated through the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC). Some schools offer the IB Diploma. We don't publish a separate WACE page; ask us and we will match a tutor.

Where do Perth students sit their exams?

Exam centres and registration

WACE ATAR exams are sat in late October and November at exam centres arranged by SCSA, alongside school-based assessment through Year 12. TISC releases ATARs in December.

School calendar

Western Australian schools run four terms from early February to mid-December. ATAR exams take place in late October and November. Western Australia does not observe daylight saving, so Perth is two hours behind Sydney in winter and three hours behind in summer.

Questions from Perth families

Do you tutor WACE ATAR courses in Perth?

Yes, we tutor Perth students in WACE ATAR courses such as Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist, Mathematics Applications, Chemistry, Physics and English. Tutors follow the SCSA syllabuses and practise with past ATAR exams. Tell us your courses and assessment schedule, and we will match a suitable tutor.

What time are online lessons in Perth?

Online lessons for Perth students are scheduled in Australian Western Standard Time, usually from 4pm to 9pm on school days and from morning to late afternoon at weekends. Because Perth is two or three hours behind the east coast, we always confirm times in Perth time before the first lesson.

How much does a tutor cost in Perth?

Tutor costs in Perth depend on subject, year level, tutor experience and format. Our own fees are listed in AUD on our pricing page and apply to live online lessons, with no driving across the metropolitan area. ATAR-course lessons sit at a higher price tier than junior years.

Is online tutoring better than an in-person tutor in Perth?

Online tutoring is often more practical than an in-person tutor in Perth, avoiding long drives along a spread-out metro area and giving access to a wider choice of specialists. An in-person tutor gives supervision some younger children need. We teach online only and do not provide home visits.

When should my child start ATAR tutoring in Perth?

Many students start tutoring in Year 11, when ATAR courses begin and the step up from Year 10 is largest, especially in Mathematics Methods and Specialist. Starting in Year 12 still helps, particularly with exam technique before the semester exams and the final ATAR exams.
