Online tutors in Brisbane

Heights International Academy teaches Brisbane students live online, one-to-one or in small groups, for IB and University subjects. Classes are scheduled in Australian Eastern Time (AEST/AEDT); other cities shown in local time, after school and at weekends, fees are shown in AUD, and the first class is free.

Brisbane students work towards the Queensland Certificate of Education, which combines internal assessments set by schools and checked by QCAA with external exams in October and November. Families across the city, from the northern suburbs to Logan and the bayside, often drive long distances after school, and summer storms can make that harder. Online tutoring fits around school and sport instead. Queensland does not use daylight saving, so in summer Brisbane is an hour behind Sydney and Melbourne, and we schedule lessons in local time.

Which curricula do Brisbane students take?

Brisbane students take the QCE, set by QCAA, with ATARs calculated by the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). Some schools offer the IB Diploma. We don't publish a separate QCE page; ask us and we will match a tutor to your subjects.

Where do Brisbane students sit their exams?

Exam centres and registration

QCE external assessments are sat at school in October and November, and internal assessments are completed during Years 11 and 12. QTAC releases ATARs in December.

School calendar

Queensland schools run four terms from late January to early or mid-December. External exams take place in October and November. Queensland does not observe daylight saving, so Brisbane stays on AEST all year.

Questions from Brisbane families

Do you tutor QCE subjects in Brisbane?

Yes, we tutor Brisbane students in QCE subjects such as Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, General Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English. Tutors follow the QCAA syllabuses and help with both internal assessments and external exam preparation. Tell us your subjects and assessment dates, and we will match a tutor.

How much does a tutor cost in Brisbane?

Tutor costs in Brisbane depend on subject, year level, tutor experience and format. Our own fees are listed in AUD on our pricing page and apply to live online lessons, with no travel time. Year 11 and 12 lessons sit at a higher price tier than junior years.

Can you help with QCE internal assessments?

Yes, we help Brisbane students prepare for QCE internal assessments, such as problem-solving and modelling tasks in maths or research investigations in science, by building the skills each task needs. Tutors guide planning and feedback without writing the work, in line with QCAA academic integrity rules.

Is online tutoring better than an in-person tutor in Brisbane?

Online tutoring is often more practical than an in-person tutor in Brisbane, avoiding long drives and storm-season disruption, and giving a wider choice of specialists. An in-person tutor suits children who need someone in the room. We teach online only and never send tutors to homes.

What time are lessons for Brisbane students?

Lessons for Brisbane students are scheduled in Australian Eastern Standard Time, usually from 4pm to 9pm on school days and from morning to late afternoon at weekends. Because Queensland has no daylight saving, we confirm times carefully in summer, when Sydney and Melbourne are an hour ahead.
