Online tutors in Toronto

Heights International Academy teaches Toronto students live online, one-to-one or in small groups, for Ontario high school, AP, IB and University subjects. Classes are scheduled in Eastern Time (EST/EDT); western cities shown in local time, after school and at weekends, fees are shown in CAD, and the first class is free.

Toronto students follow the Ontario curriculum, and many attend semestered high schools in the Toronto District School Board, the Toronto Catholic District School Board or independent schools, some of which offer AP or the IB Diploma. Driving to a tutor after school across the city, especially on the 401 or the Don Valley Parkway, can take as long as the lesson. Online tutoring removes that trip. It also suits newcomer families adjusting to Ontario's course codes and university-preparation pathways.

Where do Toronto students sit their exams?

Exam centres and registration

Course exams are set by each school. Ontario students meet the literacy requirement, usually through the OSSLT, at school. AP exams are taken at schools that offer them, and some schools accept outside AP students; SAT test centres are listed on the College Board website.

School calendar

Toronto schools run from early September to late June, with a winter break around the new year and March Break in mid-March. Many high schools are semestered, with final assessments in late January and June. Ontario university applications through OUAC are usually due in mid-January.

Questions from Toronto families

Do you tutor Grade 12 U courses for Toronto students?

Yes, we tutor Toronto students in Grade 12 university-preparation courses, including MHF4U Advanced Functions, MCV4U Calculus and Vectors, SPH4U Physics, SCH4U Chemistry and SBI4U Biology. Tutors follow the Ontario curriculum expectations and help with unit tests, culminating tasks and final exams. These marks matter for university admission, so starting early helps.

How much does a tutor cost in Toronto?

Tutor costs in Toronto depend on the subject, grade, tutor experience and whether lessons are in person or online. Our own fees are listed in CAD on our pricing page and cover live online lessons, with no travel time. AP and IB lessons sit at a higher price tier than Grade 9 and 10 courses.

Is online tutoring better than an in-home tutor in Toronto?

Online tutoring suits many Toronto high school students better than an in-home tutor because it avoids travel and offers a wider choice of specialists. An in-home tutor provides in-person supervision for children who need it. We teach online only and never send tutors to homes, but parents can sit in on lessons.

Can you help my child with the IB Diploma at a Toronto school?

Yes, we help IB Diploma students at Toronto schools with Maths, sciences, Economics and English, along with internal assessments and extended essay planning. Tutors use the current IB subject guides. Tell us your subjects and levels, SL or HL, and we will match a tutor with IB experience.

When are online lessons available for Toronto students?

Online lessons for Toronto students run in Eastern Time, usually from about 4pm to 9pm on school days and from morning to late afternoon at weekends. Lessons can be added before unit tests and final exams in January and June. We confirm slots before the first lesson.
