When are IGCSE exams for students in Saudi Arabia?
| Session | What applies in Saudi Arabia |
|---|---|
| Cambridge May/June and October/November | Cambridge exams for IGCSE, O Level and AS & A Level run in May/June and October/November. June results are released in August, and Cambridge IGCSE results for November 2026 are due on 14 January 2027. |
| Pearson Edexcel International GCSE: May/June and November | Every International GCSE subject runs in May/June; the November series covers a smaller set, including Mathematics A, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English Language A. The British Council in Saudi Arabia published separate deadlines for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and International A Level entries for October/November 2026. |
| June 2026 series | Saudi Arabia was not among the countries where Cambridge (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE) or Pearson (Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar) replaced May/June 2026 exams with contingency grading. If your child's 2026 sitting was affected in another way, ask the school or the British Council what applied. |
Where do students in Saudi Arabia sit IGCSE exams?
Students at international schools are usually entered by their own school. Private candidates, including homeschooled students and students whose school does not offer a subject, can register with the British Council in Saudi Arabia.
The British Council in Saudi Arabia takes private-candidate entries for Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA through its online School Registration System (SRS). Registration is not processed until exam fees are paid, which can be online, by bank draft payable to the British Council or in cash at a British Council customer-services desk.
The British Council sends a Statement of Entry and venue details approximately three weeks before the exams. Late entries may be possible after the normal deadline, but with penalty fees.
Requests for special arrangements must reach the exam organiser or the British Council offices in Riyadh, Jeddah or Al Khobar at least six weeks before the exam date, with a medical certificate issued within the last two years.
How do private candidates register for IGCSE in Saudi Arabia?
Private candidates register online with the British Council in Saudi Arabia through its School Registration System, choosing Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel or OxfordAQA. All communication about the entry goes to the email address you give, so use one you check. The entry is only processed once fees are paid, and a Statement of Entry with venue details arrives about three weeks before the exams.
Deadlines come early. For the Cambridge October/November 2026 series, regular registration ran from 10 June to 7 August 2026, roughly three months before the exams. Plan tutoring backwards from the registration deadline, not the exam date, so that the subject and tier choices are settled in time.
Should my child take Cambridge, Edexcel or OxfordAQA IGCSE in Saudi Arabia?
If your child is at school, the school decides the board, and tutoring should follow it exactly. For private candidates, all three boards are available through the British Council in Saudi Arabia, so the choice usually comes down to which papers the student has already studied for, which subjects run in the series they want, and whether any coursework option can be avoided.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs only in May/June and November, and its November series covers a smaller set of subjects. Cambridge runs May/June and October/November. A tutor who knows both boards can help you compare the syllabuses before you pay for an entry.

What times are online IGCSE classes in Saudi Arabia?
International schools in Saudi Arabia are licensed by the Ministry of Education. Under the Ministry's regulations for international and private schools, schools may set semester and holiday dates within two weeks of the official calendar, so term dates differ slightly between schools.
Classes run in Arabia Standard Time (UTC+3), with Friday and Saturday as the weekend. Saudi Arabia does not change its clocks, so it is two hours ahead of UK time in summer (BST) and three hours ahead in winter (GMT).
Families often move between Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province, or between Saudi Arabia and other countries. Because lessons are online, a student who changes school keeps the same tutor, provided the new school uses the same board and syllabus code.
